Kiku’s getting a new dress, and Sui got a new face-up. From grey-brown to popping green! Might re-do it at some point to see if I can tone down on the eye-shadow, went a bit overboard there XD
Last day before the con, and I’m roughly where I wanted to be yesterday night. All the ‘metal’ bits are now clayed, sanded and waiting for their top layer of wood-glue to dry. Somewhere between now and midnight they get a coat of paint and varnish and gods willing they’ll be wearable tomorrow. The vambraces warped, but they’re solidly in the “what the fuck ever” zone of things now.
I’m at this weird point where I started extra-early on cosplay this year so, y’know, things would be done in time, but then little things kept going wrong and now it’s still full-on production a few days before the con. If my fresh pack of clay arrives tomorrow and my insane 3-D puzzle-horns keep together this may all work out yet, but dayumn.
Some progress on Lady
Loki’s new horns. Version 3.0 ended up failing spectacularly courtesy of fickle purfoam, so we’ve moved on to 4.0, now with extra twine.
Mucking about a bit while waiting for some paint to dry. I’m still very pleased with the horns/headset/thingermabob I made for Lady Loki last year, but it had a severe case of Awesome But Impractical. Gave me great posture but I couldn’t look at anything below nose-level without having to hold on to it and putting it on and off was a hassle. So, 3.0 time!
Plans so far:
- Make the whole thing one object, rather than one piece held on with a poorly camouflaged headband.
- Open back for easier hair-arranging
- Weight at back for better head-movement
- Bit closer to Loki’s Avengers helmet
And here’s what we have so far digitally:
Rough shape to still sort of correspond with the headplatething

And some slighter altering on that, since I do want the little subhorns.
Was very pleased to discover that the rough shape of Lady Loki’s forehead-plate-thing is actually present in the helmet. I sort of want to keep the basic shape, but will probably make the decorations a bit smoother and with less sharp angles.
When I found out about lace-front wigs I knew that Filia was a perfect contender for trying that, so I ordered some mesh only to find out that I had already done some wig-surgery there in the past. That said, it was a nice sunny day, so I figured it was as good a time as any for some experimentation.
Mana meanwhile figured that I was neglecting her again.
More progress on the Assassin’s outfit. I’m pretty pleased, but My secondary lovely assistant has sort of had it with all my attention going to Things Not Her.
The pleather items in the last photo are a lot more like the shoes in colour, but for some reason they came out pinker in the photo o.o
Taking a bit of a breather to muck about online, and figured I might as well put these up before I forget. Today was mainly sewing more eyelets and attempting to dye some white cloth light-grey for the shirt and pants. The dye ended up a bit more enthusiastic than I expected (even after a test-strip), and as a result even a quick dip made the cloth a bit darker than I originally intended. It’s also a bit bluer in real life and a bit blotchy, but I still like it quite a bit :3
Also added some extra patches on the sides of the long robe yesterday since I basically fucked up my own patterns and put the split way too high.
I’m itching to embroider random decorations on everything, but I won’t have the time until after the EFF. Left to do: shirt, pants, boot-wrap-cover-things, collection of pouches and red sashes for both me and Sam.
I keep telling myself to take progress photos with this cosplay and then ending up not doing it because I’m too busy mentally cursing whatever I’m working on.
Still, have a sort-of in-progress shot of a second Assassin’s hood. It’s for Sam Hawkeye, who is slowly drowning in other costumes and thesis-writing.
